Anniversary Week, Day 7

Hey everyone, spencer7x7 here with the final post for anniversary week, wish I can do more of there posts but there are only like 7 days in a week so yea. Anyways, this post will be about one the longest LP ever made: Let's Play VII: Katawa Shoujo 8.
Before I write about KS8, I would like to write about how I discovered the game and other stuff. It was one day at my college, I was bored browsing the web and I was looking up open-source game engines on Wikipedia. One of the I that I never heard of is called Ren'Py, it's a visual novel engine for Windows and etc.
Later on I was looking for games made by it and I looking for the longest VN there, and it was Katawa Shoujo Act 1, their description was :
Katawa Shoujo is a bishoujo-style visual novel set in the fictional Yamaku High School for disabled children, located somewhere in modern Japan. Hisao Nakai, a normal boy living a normal life, has his life turned upside down when a congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school after a long hospitalization. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends—and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right. There are five main paths corresponding to the 5 main female characters...

So I decided to try v1 and see how it goes, in fact Season 1 is basically what choices I made in the demo version. Then I decided to do some research on the game and I found the website and found out that the game was still in development. That was when I decided to wait for the full release to do a LP on it. Fortunately, I did not have to wait long because the devs announced the release date later on, which was January 4, 2012, not much since I found out about the game in October.

However, there was the problem of picking a date, there were other LPs I had not finished when the date was announced, and I like to make my release date memorable. LP4 was released 11/11/11, LP5 was released Christmas Eve 2011, so then I decided to make the date March 14, 2012. Not only it was to be released on Pie Day, it was Emi's birthday, which ironically I did not do in the LP.

Anyways about the name and logo.
The logo is basically a combination of the Katawa Shoujo Heart and the Windows 8 logo.

Since I could not use the Segoe UI font from Microsoft, I decided to use the Ubuntu Light font cause...
it's free to use, and to avoid copyrights. Well aside from the logo KS8 refers to the 8 mian characters:
Hisao, Hanako, Lilly, Rin, Emi, Misha, Shizune and Kenji.

Unlike the Shuffle! LP and like MonkeyStory, this LP has full voice commentary. At first it was a straight commentary, but then mydim3 and I decided to do most of the voice of the characters. mydim3 did Hisao, and I did most of the other characters. Also, this LP is modular meaning that you can watch Season 1 and then so to either Season 2, 3 or 4. This LP was responsible for being :

  • Longest LP for now - Including the Grid1 episodes this has 88 episodes and nearly 39 hours!
  • 1st LP with episodes licensed via Creative Commons- to be similar license than the game the LP itself is can be mostly reused by other as long as I get credit.
  • 2nd LP with Opening, each of the 4 season had an opening for only for the first episode, see previous bullet point on why.
  • 1st Modular LP- See previous paragraph.
  • 1st  "Cancelled LP"
Before I end this post I wanted to talk about why the LP was cancelled. At first There going to be 6 seasons. Season 1 is prologue, Season 2 is Hanako, Season 3 is Rin(was originally Emi), Season 4 is Lilly, Season 5 was gonna be Emi and Season 6 was scheduled to be Shizune. But since mydim3 was bored of the LP and it has been running for far enough, we just stopped at Lilly. Also, most of our LP was stuff no one has ever completed, but before our LP was finished there were many other of this game. So I decided to leave it to the people to finish the LP and besides just get the game for free......here...

So that's finally it, maybe soon I will do another post about the rest of the LPs released this year, and also next year if I am lucky there ill be another anniversary week. So until then, stay frosty!

Anniversary Week, Day 6: Part 2

Hey everybody, spencer7x7 here with another Anniversary Week post. This time Let's Play VI: MonkeyStory takes center stage.
MonkeyStory is a game made in YoYo games, Game Maker engine. It was mainly developed my Yuri and some other people. This is basically almost a offline version of MapleStory with some changes. The most notable change is that you fight players except on monsters. In game you play as a Monkey and you go through 4 job advancements as you get stronger. You also eventually fight bosses based on GMS players such as Tiger and FangBlade. The game's most recent version is v4.00.

Anyways, this Let's Play marked a new era for WBP because this Let's Play had something everyone has been waiting for a long while: commentary.I know Let's Play ARE supposed to have commentary but in WBP we have our own definition for a Let's Play:"If I'm playing and you're watching, it's a Let's Play". But nevertheless, it was hard doing commentary at first because of the crappy equipment, in this LP we have used 2 different microphones until I used my headset for all my current LPs.

So overall this LP was:

  • The 1st LP with commentary.
And that's pretty much it, MonkeyStory was a fun game and it was since to do a full LP on it. So until next time, stay frosty folks.

Anniversary Week, Day 6: Part 1

Sorry guys that yesterday was no post, but I was busy with RL stuff and it was important so yea. Well anyways today is one of two posts about Anniversary Week, so enjoy.

Today's post  is about the an LP that has been in my mind before for a long while. Let's Play V: Elsword Eve Ultimate AdventurE

Before I began doing LPs I was playing a free MMORPG called Elsword, it was almost just realased when  I started playing. Some of my earlier videos were just me playing stages of Elsword. Later on I saw the Korean version and I wanted to play as Eve because it looked just plain badass as Code Nemesis. But since there was way to check when it came to the US, all I can do is just do a crappy trailer. In fact it's the first ever Let's Play trailer I made, using crappy Windows Movie Maker.
Thankfully, I did not have to wait over 9000 days to try it, and I began recording on Thanksgiving, when it was released. Like the MapleStory LPs, this has no commentary but us, and it only focuses on playing every single dungeon and doing every single quest while reaching the level cap of 50(now it's 60, but whatever). This was a long and annoying thing to do and it eventually surpassed Aran Adventure as longest LP, but with the help of my old guild Calamity and mydim3 it was possible.

So overall this LP was:

  • First LP with a trailer- crappy one but whatever.
  • Second LP with episodes in HD- most eps. are in HD resolution but for some reason one did not upload in HD.
  • 2nd Longest LP as of now- This had 24 episodes divided into 75 parts spanning almost 28 hours, until it was beat by LP7.
So overall this LP was fun to do and really pushed my limits as a player. Also I mentioned that I will be doing the new city Hamel soon, but that may not be possible now, however you can dream of a possible sequel to the LP? Who knows!
Well until then, see ya next time!

Anniversary Week, Day 4

Hey everybody spencer7x7x here and this is day 4 of anniversary week, and it is exactly one year since we uploaded episode one of our first LP. But today I am gonna write about LP4.0 also known as Let's Play Project IV: Shuffle!.
LP4 was by far, the HARDEST LP to do ever, episodes took up to 3 days to make because of the editing and
stuff. Well anyways, it all started when I was finding random stuff online. I found a site that sold visual novels in
English, and I found a game called Shuffle! for PC. I then realized that the trailer synced up with LMFAO's
Party Rock Anthem. When I realized that. I bought the game just for the fun of it.

Later on I decided that it might be a good idea to make an LP about this. If you played a visual novel before,
you know the drill, you basically read and pick a poison. Later on you have to read each character's path or
story or whatever, until you eventually get a good or bad ending. But since VN Let's Plays are usually boring
and stale like bread. I decided make it into a gigantic YouTube poop, using Loquendo to replace voice
commentary and YTP sounds and crazy edits to make it crazier. The edits are basically another story inside
the story. Another challenge in the LP is the adult contents in this game but that was fixed by ungracefully use
of transitions.

There are basically six sections of the LP.
4.0: Heaven X Hell Prologue - The game's prologue and common path, this is where you pick your path
and then stay by it, we meet all the main characters here and yadayada.

4.0: Heaven X Hell - Primula the Catgirl's storyline, she may be about 17 in human years but she's actually
older cause she's a cat. This part continues from the previous story and add more LOLs and drama. My
personal favorite part of the LP.

4.1:Heart Of the Void- Nerine the Superelf's storyline, this arc's title is a reference to StarCraft 2:

  • Heart of the
  • Swarm and
  • Legacy of the Void. This part of the LP has losta fanservice and it builds upon

  • Heaven X Hell in both storyline and LOLs, even though I do not like the ending. This is the most viewed part.

  • 4.2: Shadow Of Fomalhaut- Asa the green girl's story. Very boring, but it expands on the previous arc.

4.3: Advent Of Sirius- Lisianthus the Elf Princess' story, it is surprisingly better then I expected.
It expands on the previous arc. The arc title is a reference to beatmania.

4.4: Codename: DistorteD- The grand finale finaleeeee, it's Kaede's story, any more info about it is a major
spolier. Like previous arc, the  title is a reference to beatmania. This arc is shorter but more action packed.

This weird LP has many achievements:

    • First LP with commentary- if you call TTS voices commentary.
    • First post-recording LP.
    • First LP with openings.
    • First LP with a licensed song with the trailer.
    • 4th Most Viewed LP- Episode 25 had 463 views and Episode 1 has 247 views.
    • First LP produced completely in Sony Vegas Pro.
So overall, this LP took me forever, but it has helped me become a better editor and LPer so in the end it was
    worth it all.

    Anniversary Week, Day 3

Hey guys spencer7x7 here, and this is part 3 of the WBP history posts.  This post will be about the worst LP ever ever, Let's Play III: Rise of The Uber Pimp and Let's Play 1.1 MapleStory Cannon Shooter.
Rise of The Uber Pimp is an RPG Maker VX game made by Zaiku. Basically it is a short four hour RPG filled with cursing, and memes. It has Chuck Norris, The King From Zelda(MA BOI!), Final Fantasy, Hitler and the Uber Pimp Gendo. I picked this LP because it was kinda fun when I played it, and I thought it was so crazy it did not need commentary, but I was wrong. Because of that it has the LOWEST views of any LP. Also this LP does not have a trailer because the maker of the game already had a trailer.

    Overall this LP has:

    • The Lowest Views of any LP as of now- Episode 1 only has 46 views........
    • One of two LP without commentary- See above.
    • One of two LP without trailer see above
    • First Let's Play with a number.
    • Shortest LP and Shortest running LP- This only has 4 hours and lasted a week.
Well with that LP out of the way......let's write about Cannon Shooter.
Let's Play MapleStory 1.1 Cannon Shooter is the sequel of Aran Adventure XD!!. Some people wonder why is it called 1.1 instead of 4? Well, since this is another let's play of MapleStory that builds upon the previous one, it is kinda of an update and not a new thing, also it is the same game, why give another number to the same game? Anyways, like the previous LP of MapleStory it was pretty much mydim3's idea to do the Cannon Shooter LP, since Cannon Shooters were in ExtaliaMS before GMS we should make one early and do a lot stuff(even thought it had lots of bugs).

Like Aran, Cannon Shooter is about me and mydim3 training our characters, but unlike the other LP, there is no story so training is much faster and we do more per episode. In fast this LP is shorter but covers more than Aran Adventure. I don't know if it is because of this or the fast that we had CS earlier but Cannon Shooter has a huge amount of views. Eventually it was surpassed by Lincle but whatever. Since CS was so great, we decided to make a part 3 of the LP but that is another story.
    This had the following achievements:

    • Second Most Viewed LP- Episode 1 has 1,970 views as of now, and this used to be number one,but was surpassed by Lincle.
    • First Maple LP with a trailer.
So that's the story of the two LPs, next time i'll write about LP4, until next time, stay frosty. :)

    Anniversary Week, Day 2

Hey guys, it's me spencer7x7 here back with another LP history post. This time it will be about Let's Play Artificial Academy : Project Lincle, the number one LP of all time for some reason. Past of this post will be some
copy and paste from my other post so bear with me.
MapleStory was doing well in terms of views and comments, but sometimes it was tedious because of conflicting schedules between mydim3 and I. And soon episodes of MapleStory were getting lower and lower in supply since I like to record way in advance. It was then where I needed to find another thing to do........ another project..........then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

The reason mydim3 and I chose MapleStory is because on YouTube there was NO large comprehensive Let's Play/Walkthrough on MapleStory, most quit half way. Although Aran Adventure XD(and Cannon Shooter) were not fully comprehensive, they were fairly thorough and we had reached out goal.

That time around September I was playing another game called Artificial Academy as the wiki says:
"Artificial Academy is an eroge high school social simulation, spun off from Illusion's Artificial Girl series, released by Illusion on June 10, 2011. Create and play any of up to 25 students of varying gender, orientation and other interaction abilities and personal inclinations. Make friends and lovers as the class competes for achievement in academics, athletics, popularity, and romance".
Despite it being an eroge, I played it mostly for the wacky antics of my characters. It was then I was looking up videos for the lols and then I found a Let's Play by Jellykuf  it was wacky and weird but like Maple it was incomplete...... SO then I had a crazy idea to make up my own! After weeks of modding, searching and planning,........................ Lincle was born!
Three days before the premiere I made a trailer from the random footage of my adventures.

Then on September 13, 2011, Lincle was loose into the world. Lincle is a historic LP for me for many reasons:

    • 1st Let's Play without mydim3
    • 1st Let's Play with Episodes in High Definition(Starting from Episode 19)
    • 1st Let's Play with a trailer
    • 1st Let's Play with credits
    • 1st (and only) Let's Play with annotations.
    • 1st Let's Play without any commentary(other than annotations)
    • #1 Let's Most Viewed Let's Play - Episode 1 has about 2,020 views and Episode 27 has well...... 8,814 views!.
Despite all these records,Lincle was never meant to overshadow Aran Adventure XD! Maybe it's the subtle advertising of the trailer on HongFire IRC chat, or maybe it's the lack of AA videos on YouTube, but Project Lincle has currently over 5 times the views as Aran Adventure XD. That is insane, and I never meant for it to be this big, it was just for fun, so much views it has, that the original 30 episodes were expanded to 40 and mydim3 returns as a character.

Looking back now Lincle was fun but I regret sorta not putting any commentary, it was a busy semester in school and at the house. And also I did not have Loquendo or a mic, so it was not possible. But seeing that MapleStory has a sequel series called Cannon Shooter(which is the number one LP of all time of mine as of this post.) I decided to do a sequel to Lincle called Fiunt but, that is not important.

Overall, Lincle is my most viewed series and It will be part of Weegee Bros. History forever.

    Anniversary Week, Day 1

Hey guys spencer7x7 here, this is day one of anniversary week so as promised there will be a blog post everyday about a past LP. Today I start with the first ever LP that put us on the map sorta.

This is Let's Play MapleStory Aran Adventure XD!!!.

Before we were Weegee Bros. Productions, my channel had just nothing good, just random stuffs like Dancing Pikachu and etc. It started when mydim3 and I were watching LP's like Pokemon Vietnamese Crystal by DeliciousCinnamon and stuff by SmilingSuncake and Chongo. But the main reason is because of the Let's Play The Aran Adventure by SkullBoy and The MapleStory Adventure by the same guy. They were good and funny LPs but were kinda incomplete. Also mydim3 suggested we do a MapleStory LP about Aran and I said good idea, so we decided to just do it.

Before the Let's Play ,we used FRAPS for recording, but FRAPS sucked, it takes up too much space and time trying to convert the video to a YouTube friendly format. So Bandicam was used ever since and I have not come back to FRAPS ever since. So, about a year ago we decided to record the first episode, since doing a REAL Maple LP is grindy and tedious we decided to go to a Private Server, namely ExtaliaMS.
Extalia's low and adjustable rate makes this the perfect server for doing the LP. Unlike other Maple LPs, we decided to focus on story, so we had to do the story quests to get the skills (which was at the them the only place to get them, before the Chaos update). Mydim3 and I also did everything together for most of the LP, with mydim3 and I making commentary via the text box. We did not have microphone so we could not do voice commentary for the first few LPs until LP6, but that is another story.

Episodes were usually about 20-30 minutes parts, I picked to do 20-30 minutes because it was about the length of a TV show, not too long but not too short. Episodes were uploaded daily so that people like us can either watch them all at once when they stack up, or watch daily.

This Let's Play had the following:

    • First Let's Play Ever- Duh.....
    • Third Longest Let's Play as of posting date- This had 22 episodes and a 1 extra episode, divided into 76 parts total, overall it lasted nearly 28 hours and it was the longest until LPs 5 and 7 came.
    • First Let's Play with Playlist Cover- The Playlist Cover is a long tradition that was borrowed from SmilingSuncakeStudios, it's basically a promo image of the game with the logo, characters and the text  "LET'S PLAY". Early covers were made with Pain but now they are made in GIMP. Also, even though  SmilingSuncakeStudios does not use playlist cover's anymore, we still use them because of the tradition.
    • 5th Most Viewed Let's Play- as of now the most viewed episode is 15 Part 1 with 465 views and episode 1 Part 1 has about 397 views.
    • One of Two Let's Plays without a trailer- this Let's Play was all of a sudden so there was no trailer. The Other LP was 3.0.
So overall Aran Adventure XD, was a success for us, and it started a trilogy of MapleStory, but that's another story. This LP may have  been long and boring, but mydim3 and I will remember it forever.
